Electives: Spring 2002

You are invited and encouraged to attend the VPC Sunday School classes, which are designed to instruct in God's Word, equip believers for Christian service and promote growth in family life, church life, in the workplace and society as we seek to grow in our obedience to God. We are offering three new elective classes, which begin April 21, and run to the end of June. All families, friends and visitors to VPC are invited to attend any of the classes offered.

Sunday School classes are also offered for children of all ages. During the elective term we will have a Basic Beliefs Communicant's class for students in 5th and 6th grades. Sunday School begins at 9:30 and ends at 10:40.

Basic Beliefs (Begins April 14)

Pastor Ron teaches and leads discussion on some of the most important questions of life: Who is God? How can I get to know Him? What does the Bible say about what's really important in life? It will inform you as to what we believe at VPC and encourage you to take the next step in your spiritual life.

The Holiness of God

This is a class designed for women on the study of R.C. Sproul's book (which will be provided) The Holiness of God is Ligonier Ministry's most popular and enduring series. Literally thousands of people have testified to a transforming encouter with God through this series. Regarding this series, Chuck Colson, author and founder of prison ministries, writes: "The material in this book drove me to my knees and dramatically changed my Christian life."

Societal Issues/Biblical Ethics

How should Christians respond to what some have called the "Culture Wars"? This class will deal with this question as we study what the Bible teaches on some of today's moral issues such as: abortion, homosexuality, gender roles, capital punishment and others. We will learn how to discuss from a Biblical perspective these issues, learn how to evangelize within this context, and how to be "salt and light" and make our private Christian lives socially relevant.

I & II Chronicles (Berean Class)

This ongoning class continues the study of these two Old Testament books of the Bible. In their general scope and design, these books are not so much historical as instructive and edifying. The "Chronicles" are an epitome of the sacred history from the days of Adam down to the return from Babylonian Exile, a period of about 3,500 years.

Young Married and Family

This elective class will be the beginning of a new Sunday School class called Homebuilders, designed for the instruction, encouragement and fellowship of young married couples and families. The focus of the elective for the first ten weeks will be a study of family life issues from the Bible.

Colossians (College & Career Class)

This ongoing class for young single adults continues the study of the letter of Paul to the Colossians. Here we learn that in Christ Jesus and His Word we have all things necessary for life as Christians. This study sets forth the majesty of His redemption and how false teachers try to draw Christians away from the simplicity of the gospel.
