Communicant's Class
(Basic Beliefs for Children)
Introduction | Letter to
Parents | Schedule | Curriculum
Introduction:
This class is for children who want to make a public profession
of faith and join as communicant members of our church. While we
do not want to put pressure on anyone to take this class, we do
encourage you to pray with your child about this opportunity.
Please note that this is a class with a serious objective and
will require regular attendance, homework, and personal
commitment by each child. Upon completion of the class, children
will be given the opportunity to share their faith with the
Elders which may lead them to take communion and be baptized (if
necessary). We encourage your support. A traditional Sunday
School class will also be offered over this period for those who
do not choose this option.
Letter to
Parents:
March 24, 2002
Dear Communicant Class Students & Parents,
Thanks for participating in our kick-off meeting and taking
the opportunity seriously enough to pray it over and commit to participate in
the class. As a reminder the class will begin on Sunday April 7 and run for
11 weeks till June 16 (I made a mistake on the original letter, the initial
section on the Bible runs two weeks). We will be starting promptly each Sunday
at 9:30am. We will be meeting upstairs in Galpin Hall Room 25.
In addition to the course curriculum outlined
in the introductory letter (and posted on the VPC web site) well be studying
the book of Mark together. Each student will be expected to read a chapter from
the Book of Mark each week and record their observations for discussion in class
(posted in the PROAPT assignment sheet contained in the curriculum on web site).
In addition we will be memorizing a bible verse each week and reciting it in
class. Our desire is to establish a regular devotion life in our communicant
kids and hide God's Word in their hearts.
As a reminder upon completion of the class,
children who have demonstrated evidence of faith, faithfulness in completing
the class and a desire to profess their faith will be given an opportunity to
meet with the Elders. As stated previously, a genuine profession of faith before
the Elders should aid you and your child in deciding if this is the appropriate
time for them to join the church as a communicant member, receive communion
and is baptized (if necessary).
If you desire to participate in the class but
haven't returned your signed letter of commitment please do so as soon as possible.
We use the sign-up sheets as an aid in knowing how much material to produce
and what size to prepare for. If for any reason you are unable to deliver the
commitment letter in person please give me a call (818-886-1233) and let me
know your intentions.
Yours in Christ,
Bruce Mateko
