2004 VPC High School and Men's Backpacking Trips

September 3 - September 6, 2004

Introduction: This year, the High School and Men's Backpacking Trips are both going on Labor Day weekend. These trips are being coordinated by Norm Herr and Sean Laird. Please read all of the information carefully to insure that we have a great trip.

Permit/Release. All chlidren must have release forms. Please download, complete, and give to the driver.

Survey: Please complete the following survey so we have accurate information. NOTE. THIS IS VERY IMPORTATANT FOR PLANNING PURPOSES.

Friday, September 3

  • Early cars: Meet at 8:00 AM at the home of Norm and Roberta Herr.Those going on the Men's backpacking trip will drive all cars to Horse Coral Meadows (2). There is no formal campground here, but plenty of nice places to camp on the southwest side of the meadow. All of the cars will be brought to this location to facilitate the shuttle.
  • Late cars: Meeting place and departure time to be determined.
  • Early cars arrive at Lodgepole Campground (1) in Seqouia National Park (see red 1 on map). Check at entrance for Herr (reservation 3885272 and 3734461
  • Early arrivers visit the General Sherman Tree, the World's Largest living thing.
  • Early dinner at Lodgepole Campground.

Saturday , September 4,

  • the Men's group hikes to Seville Lake (3) or one of the other lakes in the vicinity.
  • the HS group hikes to Twin Lakes (4)

Sunday, September 5

  • Church service
  • Men's group has a layover day. People can climp Twin Peaks, Mt. Silliman, or explore the many lakes in the area
  • HS group hikes to the Seville Lake (4) vicinity to join Men's group.

Monday, September 6

  • Men's group and HS group exit to Horse Corral Meadows.
  • Drive home. Estimated time of arrival: 6:00 PM.
